Which workspace?

Start with the job, not the file type

Responding to a pupil's SAR

Use the SAR workspace to bring together evidence, preserve the data subject's information where appropriate and review third party information before disclosure. Detection suggestions help you find possible matches; they do not make the disclosure decision.

Combining a report and its appendices

Use PDF tools to merge the files, put pages in order and add page numbers. Keep the originals, then check the downloaded copy for missing pages and orientation before sharing it.

Turning a spreadsheet into a document

Use PDF tools for a supported workbook conversion. For sensitive spreadsheet evidence, use the SAR review workflow. Neither route should be mistaken for producing a safely redacted Excel workbook.

Working with your files

Open locally. Make your changes. Keep your output.

1. Choose your workspace

Open PDF tools for an individual document job, image tools for a photo or screenshot, or the SAR workspace for evidence review and disclosure. Select files from your device inside that workspace.

2. Check the result

Office conversions can change fonts, page breaks and complex layouts. OCR can misread scans. Redaction needs a human check, even when technical export verification passes.

3. Download and retain

Save the output before closing the tab. For a SAR case, download an encrypted case file to continue later and keep its password safely. A downloaded document is not automatically encrypted.

All three workspaces process the files you select locally rather than sending them to a processing server. This public website has separate advertising and analytics arrangements. Read the privacy notice.

A companion for Chrome

Quick redaction from your browser

Before you start

Are these different products?

Yes. RedactNinja SAR is the evidence and disclosure workspace at app.redactninja.com. RedactNinja PDF is the general document toolkit at pdf.redactninja.com. RedactNinja Image is the photo and screenshot toolkit at image.redactninja.com. Opening one does not transfer your files or case into another.

Will an Office conversion look exactly like the original?

Not always. Supported Word, Excel and PowerPoint conversions have layout and content limitations. Check images, tables, fonts and pagination, and keep the original file. See the PDF tools guide before converting an important document.

Does automatic detection find every personal detail?

No. Names, scanned text and context can be missed. Review suggestions and every output page before disclosure. Do not use a drawing or watermark as a substitute for a redaction tool.

Where can I report a problem?

Contact RedactNinja with the tool name, browser and what happened. Do not send sensitive documents or passwords. A fictional example is preferable.
